Red corsairs hellbrute

Hi guys! Here I have for you a chaos hellbrute from warhammer 40k starter set.

When the sate came out I was already excited for the models. But in time my excinment for the cultists and chosen disappeared. But not for this guy! I think this is the best dreadnought out there! And he stands near the forgeworld nurgle dread. Thats my own opinion.

I started painting this guy in December, but then I kinda lost interest in painting (As I do some times). So he was standing on the shelf gathering dust.

I often visit battlereporter.freeforums.org , as it is my very first warhammer forum that I joined. They started a painting competition, and I immediately grabbed my hellbrute. But my problem was that it had some base colors. He had the dark reds on him and some flesh. But the member agreed that it is far from done. THX GUYS!

So on my free days I was painting him. I saw plenty of pictures of him painted by other people, and the biggest mistake I noticed (my opinion) is that people paint the fleshy parts in the same color as the rest of the model. As you can see in the starter box.

I decided that its a bad idea, and went for flesh colors. And I am happy with the result. I also like how my red turned out. Its blood red. On my other corsairs I was it with the red was, and it darkens it a little bit. But here I decided not to, and I am happy that I didn't.

The only problem that I I had painting the model was the face. I couldn't paint his eyes... After plenty of failed tries I went for dark eyes. And it turned out better then I expected.

The back of the model was I pain to paint. I always use dark spray paint. And painting elf flesh on top of chaos black was a pain. I needed 5 layers of elf flesh to hide the black that was seen under the flesh.

I never understood how to highlight properly. After some tries I finally got it! And the flesh on this model is highlighted to the right standards!

I also added some skull white with elf flesh mix to some flesh parts, so that they will stand out. But not to all of them.

All in all I am very happy with the model. But from 1 to 10, I would give my self a 7. I need to paint more, to get to the standards I want. And this model was a great chance to learn more!

And here is my band together! Next stop are 5 more marines, 2 bikes and HLEDRAKE!!!

How I got in to WARHAMMER.

Hi. Want to give this forum more life. Its to quiet around here :P .
I was painting my hellbrute model for the painting competition, and I asked my self, why do I do this?. So, when I was a kid, I always where in the miniature gaming kinda thing. I played ROBOGEAR, Mekh attack, and other games from Russia. I liked playing them, the thing that I liked the most was that I could make up my own story after the game. So I asked my mom to have a little campaingh with me (I didn't even know that that was a canpaingh back then.) I picked a army full of mechanized zombies and humanoid lizards as my 2 groups, my mom picked knights and other human race, similar to bretonians. We made up an story on why do they fight with each other. And after each game we progressed the story with updates, based on how the game went on. So we had a game every day for one week. And after we had a small, 2 big peace of paper with story in it.
Then I started growing up, and I wanted to have a game that is more deep in stories, and more harder to get in. I found DnD, but didn't find any one in the internet who would play it in my country... Latter I was searching google for pictures of the new range of models, for that game that we played with my mom. And I saw 3 models, that where so amazing!!!!! They where warriors of chaos. I was just shoked how awesome they where! Then I saw 40k chaos space marines and spawns. I didn't have no idea what are they, or what game is it. I thought that those spawns are actually some aliens, and the marines are some gladiators from future
So I checked the warhammer site for more info. Just belive me when I say this, when I opened the site I fell of my chair! For me it was heaven. I picked dark elves as my first army. I didn't even check 40k section back then, because I always was in fantasy stuff. As my second choice, I picked WoC. I started to read the story of the 2 armies, and I denied WoC, since I am religions person, and back then I was kinda scared of them, because the warship deamons.
So afcourse my country didn't have any stores that where selling warhammer stuff. I noticed latter on that they have a shop in Finland. And its only 1.5 hours on a ship from my home town. I asked my mom to go there. So we did. The problem was that the shop, on the internet cart was to far away, something like 1 hour on foot. And when we got there, the shop wasn't no where to be found. But near it was a magic the gathering shop. I asked the owner of that shop about GW, and he told me that they've got closed and moved some where else, but hi didn't know where....
So I got very upset about it, my mom got angry. And we went to some kind of MEGA mall some where in the center of Helsinki. So what do you think? We got lost at the mall.... So we where searching for the exit (And guys, that mall, is a LABYRINTH!) We turned some where and got out on the parking lot. Long story short, we got out from the parking lot and what do you know, I was standing right in front of the GW store. I still think my mom was way happier that me at that point.
So back then my mom both me a Old metal Hydra (which I still have), High elve dragon, box of 5 Command exequs.... (the dark elve guys), box of corsairs, dark elf corsair hero, sorcerer, cold one knights, and I think thats it.
So that how I got in to the hobby. I had a very long time in solo playing, since I didn't know people who could play in my home town. Until I got a PM on attlereporter.freeforums.org/ from a guy who is also from Tallinn, and he gave me the link to the Tallinn gaming forum, and phone numbers who I can contact.
So since then I play warhammer. The gaming group from my home town have shown me how to play fantasy, and latter on asked me if I am interested in 40k. So that is my story of how I got in to the hobby.

Lone wolf 6th edition tactics

Hi. I am not a master in tactics. But I wanted to share with you with my thoughts about lone wolves.

Unit Name: Lone Wolf

Unit Type: Elite

Construction: Using the space wolves pack or wolf guard terminator boxes.

Unit Deployment: In cover.

Unit in play: Stand alone model.

Unit is most effective against: Monsters and walkers.

General Discussion:
Its an elite slot. It’s a one model unit that can kill a monster or a walker in 1 or 2 hits.

What do you get for your points?
Ok, so you get a lone model that is under 30 points. He is fearless, feel no pain and eternal warrior. That’s already great! Plus he can reroll his hits in combat against monsters, walkers and everything that has T6. So for the points you get a hunter for monsters. The big downside is that he is a pack of one, and because of that he is very weak against hordes…
Also they work good in pairs. Take two lone wolves and play them near each other, to provide some extra buff. Belive me, my blood angel opponent couldn't kill those 2 guys with a squad of 10 death company and 5 assault marines. They also work good as your line protectors. How often do your long fangs get charged by some big tyranid monster or some other stuff? And while all of your main forces are in the center of the table, the long fangs are an easy kill for your opponent. So hide your lone wolf some where in terrain near the long fangs, and provide them some support in close combat, or at least you will get an extra turn of shooting with them, while your lone wolf will be stuck in combat with what ever is running towards your long fangs.
So basekly he is a character that cant join units.

Wargear options:
As I said, they have some great wargear options. But you should have in mind what game style you play. Is it an aggressive or protective.
 Power sword. - No good…
Wolf claw – Good, but not great…
Power fist, frost blade or frost axe – there are better options.
Thunder hammer or storm shield – good. Storm shield will give you the invul. Save that you need. Since your wolf will be targeted by shooting. Thunder hammer is also good.
Termi armour. – Its good for that +2 armour save. But the big down side is that you cant run him then, if you want to get him in your opponent lines. Now, I use my lone wolf to protect my lines. And my opponent usually run in to him like suckers! Tyranid players always drop something in they're pods or deep strike those monsters. So my lone wolf in termi armour, storm shield and thunder hammer has always work to do. And belive me, he will not die!
Combi weapons – if you want to get that one extra attack on a charge, go for it. But I wouldn't recommend it.
Chainfist – Also a great option. Hi will open those tanks like a tin can.
 Melta bombs – No need.
Up to two wolves – If you want some extra wounds on him, go for it. I take two wolves with him.
Mark of the wulfen – Waste of points if you ask me…

How to play the Lone wolf?
Give him termi armour, thunder hammer and storm shield and guard you lines. Or give him two wolves, storm shield and some other weapon and run in to the center of the table. But he works best as a protector rather then an attacker.

Conclusion:

He is good against monsters, walkers and T6. He is a dead man against horde. He is under 30 points with no upgrades. He has feel no pain and eternal warrior. He is GREAT!
